Psychotherapy

As a Registered Psychotherapist, I strive to build a strong and trusting therapeutic relationship where you can feel safe to start your therapeutic journey. As a humanistic and person-centred psychotherapist my stance is rooted in the belief that humans are inherently healthy and aspire to learn and grow. Sometimes, we can get off course, whether as a result of a traumatic event, early neglect or mistreatment, or other stressful life events. I strive to help you access inner resources so that once overwhelming emotions can become a valuable source of guidance for your goals, needs, and values.

I work with individual adults from an Emotion-Focused (EFT) and Polyvagal-informed lens (i.e., an understanding of neurobiology of your nervous system). I also integrate modalities such as Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), to address your needs. I have worked with clients seeking services to help with binge-eating and body image, anxiety and panic, depression, grief and loss, as well as, PTSD and complex trauma. I have worked in community and private practice settings with clients from diverse backgrounds and aim to offer an inclusive environment.

I completed my Master’s or Arts Degree in Counselling Psychology at Saint Paul’s University. I have a Minor in Women’s and Intersectional Studies from the University of Ottawa, as well as a research background in reproductive Health Sciences. I am particularly passionate about working with adults who have experienced various forms of childhood trauma such as physical, sexual, or emotional abuse, as well as parental neglect and abandonment. Through my academic and professional training, I have found myself drawn to the complexities of trauma and its profound impact on individuals’ mental well-being. My therapeutic philosophy is grounded in the understanding that due to its remarkable quality of neuroplasticity; the brain is capable of change throughout life, and I believe that this inherent capacity serves as a powerful tool for healing and transformation. As a clinical and health psychologist, I provide assessment and psychotherapy for a wide variety of issues. I consider it a privilege to be able to work with individuals to achieve their goals and create a life that is congruent with their values.

I have experience in assisting individuals with issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma (PTSD and C-PTSD), OCD, grief and loss, life role transitions, substance use issues, interpersonal difficulties or unhelpful personality traits. I can also assist people in adjusting to chronic illness, acute or chronic pain, processing new diagnoses or the impact of recent hospitalizations, adjusting to new ways of being after health issues, and end of life or palliative care concerns.

I value the integration of scientific evidence, clinical judgment, and the preferences and needs of each individual with whom I work. I consider myself an integrated psychologist and base much of my work in client-centered (Rogerian), emotion focused and process-oriented approaches to psychotherapy. I have training in Emotion Focused, Cognitive Behavioral, and Cognitive Processing therapies. I also frequently integrate poly-vagal informed practices, psycho-education, and motivational interviewing techniques in to my work with clients.
